The American Legion’s home was taking on a new look. The front of the building had a new entrance surrounded by Roman bricks and glass blocks. The lobby was totally remodeled.
Walt Romaneschi and Jack Bennett of D&R Realty thanked the people of Snohomish County for helping them sell more than $1 million worth of business in their first year. Others employed by the firm were Wilbur Meier, Bill Hansen, Ernie Ray, June Elder, Jim McNeely and Ed Brock.
Bill Belshaw, assistant director of Snohomish County Parks and Recreation, was among those commuting to work on bicycles. John Lindstrom, a community college instructor and biking enthusiast, said it was a good alternative with gas prices climbing. Roland Strandell road his bike to a mill every morning.
The Everett Masonic Temple on Everett and Wetmore avenues was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1921 by the Knights of Columbus, the four-story brick building with a tile roof had been used by the Masons since 1928.
