Ornita Hautimaki was hosting the meeting of Xi Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi at her home, 1725 Lombard Ave. Evelyn Keeler was co-hosting. The guest speaker was Norman Adcock of Seattle, who was a lighting expert and would speak on "Better Lighting for Better Living."
With Bill Gorbutt acting as toastmaster, Harvey White Sr. as grammarian and Sterling Sowers as critic, the Everett Toastmasters Club heard four speakers at the regular meeting in the Elks Home. The speakers were Emerson Anderson, Robert Benson, Louis Ruppert and Donald Chapin.
In his "Northwest Passage" Jim Casey wrote about his recent evening cruising Colby Avenue. He wrote that it was stupid and that youths should be able to find something to do other than drive gas-guzzling over-the-hill cars up and down main street. Sgt. Dale Ward of the Everett Reserve Police and Sgt. Don Hopkins agreed.
Cars negotiated the flooded corner of Hewitt and Rucker avenues as a torrent of rain came down on Snohomish County.
