Ladies Day competition at the Everett Golf and Country Club was on points. Irene Stephenson led the first division with 28. Mary Ward won in the second division with 32, followed by Bingie Deverall with 30. Virginia Bergstrom won the third division at 27.
E. Cecil Ferguson, Emory Ferguson, Burdette Ferguson and Jim Johnson of the Ferguson Canning Co. of Maple Street in Snohomish, were loading the first carload of canned chowder to go out. Most of it was going to, of all places, Boston. The rest would go to Chicago and Philadelphia.
Verna Thompson, director of publicity for Frederick &Nelson in Seattle, said negotiations were going smoothly for a department store at Everett Mall on the Broadway cutoff. The major Northwest retailer had been talking about an anchor position in Alderwood Mall, which was under construction, but it looked as if it would instead join the Bon Marche and Sears in the south Everett location.
Residents of Clearview, Maltby and Cathcart were talking about the problems of rapid growth and what to do about it at Maltby Elementary School.
