Kenneth Dodson of Mukilteo revealed a contract had been signed for the filming of his new Pacific war novel, “Away All Boats.” Just home from Hollywood, he was enthusiastic about the selling price and percentage of profits he would get from Universal- International, makers of the film.
The Casino, a tavern so well known that it had lent its name to the crossroads on which it was located – Highway 99 and the Beverly Park-Mukilteo Road – was damaged by fire. It was saved by Fire District 6. Fire Chief Joe Fisher estimated damage at $3,500. John McCarthy operated the establishment.
Arlington High School’s Clarence Kohl was the Eagles’ soccer ace. Leading scorer last year as a sophomore, he was on his way toward duplicating that feat. Coach Roy Livermore said Kohl had a good attitude, was easy to coach and always gave his all.
Doug Meade, a 6-foot, 5-inch slender Monroe High School athlete, was hoping to clear 7 feet at the AA state track meet in Spokane. The Bearcat attributed his success to the high caliber of competition in the area.
