50 years ago (1964)
Deputy Sheriff Glenn Mann headed an effort to free a duck stuck frozen to the ice that covered Beverly Lake. The duck was frozen to the lake by her breast feather. Gann took an axe to the ice around her and she freed herself.
Teen-age Square Dance Club was to hold a Christmas party and dance with a potluck lunch at Promenade on Holly Drive. Preparing for the fete Jim Gann called for Tana Gann, John Mannino. Beth Stainton and Chris Iverson. Club members came from Everett, Eastmont, Marysville and South County.
25 years ago (1989)
The section of the 2800 block of Hoyt Avenue over the Burlington Northern tunnel, closed where the soil sank nearly a foot, opened at 10 p.m. Larry Crawford with Everett Public Works said that the alley just west of Hoyt would remain closed.
Barbara and Chuck Evans of Mill Creek decided to use his dump truck for transportation for a Christmas caroling party. Joined by close friends, they sang at shopping centers and nursing homes. They caroled for three hours before the cold weather stopped them.
