Winds buffeted the Pacific Northwest. A rain-filled storm hit west of the Cascades. Some gusts reached 65 mph. The storm also was felt in Eastern Washington, Oregon and California.
John Boomer, Bill Callaghan and Richard Eberle, Boy Scouts in Gunnar Guttormsen’s Troop 17, turned over a collection of license plates to John Sevenich’s service station on Rucker Avenue.
Some county residents were counting their blessings to be alive after a windstorm that flipped airplanes at Paine Field, downed power lines and sent trees crashing into residences. The trailer of Howard and Barbara Burley in Gold Bar was knocked on its side. A neighbor’s picnic table was moved 25 feet. The biggest casualty was the Hood Canal Bridge, which partially sank.
There was something for everyone in downtown Everett, including The Olde Imperial on Hewitt Avenue just off Colby Avenue. The restaurant and lounge featured Beef Wellington, Canard Jubilee, Scampi San Remo and Tournedo’s Flambe.
