The Lowell Brick &Tile Co. plant was being rebuilt after its roof caved in under the weight of a January snowstorm, manager John Gorin announced. The roof was being given a slope for greater strength.
One hard-working group representing Everett High School was Harold McNeil’s debate team. It consisted of Jack Hall, Marilee Weaver, Mary Alke Caton and Ken Mundy. They had just participated in a tournament at Western Washington College of Education in Bellingham.
A dinner evening with entertainment was being planned by the Everett Opera Guild at the Everett Yacht Club. Soprano Mary Hastings and tenor William Livingston would be spotlighted in excerpts from American musical comedies, singing to piano accompaniment by Mike Mitchell.
Cascade High School took first place in a horticulture contest in Battle Ground. Mariner High School placed third. The previous night at a floraculture contest in Vancouver, Wash., Mariner was first and Cascade second. Individual winners from Cascade were Evan Wilkins, Kathy Cherry and Oscar Cullum. Mariner’s winners were Shawn Taylor, Joann Grubb, Ron Smickler and Lori Van Winkle.
