Three Snohomish County soldiers were due to arrive in Seattle from the Far East aboard the Transport Gen. R.L. Howze. They were Sgts. Edward Kranson and John Mitch of Everett and Cpl. Jack Parris of Darrington.
Lucille Adams, member of Harold Roberts’ art class at Snohomish High School, won a Gold Key award for her drawing submitted in the statewide Scholastic Arts Awards contest. Artwork by Pat Miller also was honored. The announcement was received by Hal Moe, school principal. The drawings were on exhibit at Frederick and Nelson in Seattle.
Everett’s downtown parking meters might become piggy banks, but they wouldn’t be returned to the streets. The City Council voted to remove from curbsides the posts that once held the meters. Traffic engineer Ron Cameron said it would take two years and $6,000 to remove the posts.
Robert Tompkins, a member of the Granite Falls Town Council and a former mayor, was elected mayor by the council. Tompkins, 67, filled a vacancy created by the death of Adrian Dale Spromberg.
