Men who helped to make Everett the pulp and paper capital of the world gathered when the Chamber of Commerce held a membership luncheon to start observance of Scott Paper Week. They were Paul Baldwin, vice president of West Coast Division of Scott; William Jenkins, vice president of Everett First National Bank; Thomas Gleed, president of Simpson Logging Company; Russell LeRoux, general manager of Weyerhaeuser Timber pulp division and G. Willing Pepper, vice president of Scott in Chester, Pa.
Lloyd E. Wallgren and John Osterman of West Coast Telephone received promotions.
Scott Paper Company announced plans to spend $70 million for expansion of its Everett pulp and paper plant. James Lienesch, vice president and general manager in Everett, said the project would involve construction of an advanced paper products machine and plant expansion to house the machine.
General Telephone Company planned to spend $1.3 billion in its five-state Northwest area for new construction programs in the coming five years. President Al Barran said the new program was a response to accelerated growth in the Northwest and would involve $341 million more than the previous construction plan.
