Ray Peppel, scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts Troop 7, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, received the Citizenship Award, the highest honor given by the veterans’ organization, from Bob Shattuck, VFW committeeman. The presentation was made during the Court of Honor held by Troop 7, which Peppel headed.
Downtown Edmonds was decked out for Christmas. A tree with countless lights stood at Fifth and Main streets. Several organizations contributed their time and effort on the tree.
Building activity in Everett set a record in just the first 10 months of the year with $83.5 million spent. It was boosted by Boeing’s construction work on its plant expansion for the new 767 airliner. The previous record, in 1966, was $49.9 million. Housing construction reached 818 units, the highest since 1968.
Promotions announced this week by Murray Campbell, president of Olympic Bank, included several management positions. Employees affected were Arlene Nielsen, Reid Yamamoto, Gary A. Bye, Albert Dantico, James Barschaw, Merwyn Banks and Josephine Fye.
