Junior Red Cross members in Snohomish and Island counties joined in packing gift boxes to be sent overseas to children in Greece and other countries. Bill Van Beek and Norman Rude of Robbin’s Transfer loaded the cartons, while Audrey Sparlin of the Red Cross offered advice and a helping hand.

Two teams of volunteers recently hiked 16 miles and spent two weekends preparing the historic Mount Three Fingers lookout for another winter. Among them was Harold Engles, 76, a former Forest Service ranger who helped build the lookout in 1931. Weather damage was discovered in July by Harry Tucker.
