Four Snohomish County Future Farmers of America got help from the Everett Elks Lodge to go to their annual national convention in Kansas City, Mo. Tom McDonough, Elks exalted ruler, presented $125 checks to Kick Ziebell of Sultan, Frank Swanson of Edmonds, John Engsrom of Arlington and Curtis Horne of Lake Stevens.
Granite Falls High School principal E.J. Cava showed his driving class the engine in the new Ford, made available to the school by Backstrom Motors of Arlington. Students looking on were Leda Dorning, Mary Smith, Mickie Giroux, Gary Allen and Donna Gardner.
Don Bartholomaus of Edmonds was installed as president of the Everett Kiwanis Club. He was advertising manager for The Herald. Also installed were Russ Juckett, Paul Sayler, Arne Sunde and Norm Girdler. Named to the board of directors were Dwight Botkin, Walt Cooper, Richard Fleck, Neal Jeans, Jerry Jones, Roger Mandery, Ralph McDougal and Mike Whitehead.
Marysville would soon have a new bank at 10th Street and State Avenue, adjacent to the post office. Citizens Bank of Marysville received approval from the state banking commission. Don Rosser was chief executive officer, and Brooks Griffin was vice president.
