Paul Parkhurst, a former assistant chief who retired from the Everett Fire Department to devote full attention to the County Civil Defense directorship, was paid tribute by the department. Leo Johnson, president of the Everett local of the firefighters union, presented a gold badge to Parkhurst. Assistant Chief Earl Brower and Safety Commissioner Arvin Johnson also attended the event.
Robert Humphrey, author of "Senior Soapbox" for The Herald, was to be the guest on a half-hour show on radio station KGDN. The program was to cover senior concerns such as activity theory and stress theory.
Volunteers at General Hospital were honored at an awards luncheon and Christmas party at the Everett Yacht Club. Tim Jones was recognized as first volunteer, with 1,000 hours served. Others honored were Mary Harris, Chloris Briggs, Laurel Brown, Millie Knapp, Anne Grace, Irene Oliver, Ruby Smith and Amelia Williams.
