Dr. Phil Millard was re-elected president of the Everett Golf and Country Club. Named to serve with him as officers were Russell H. Farrington, David B. McIlravy and Ben Hanch. Serving on the board of trustees were Earle Mackey, James Hayes, Vernon Haines, Gordon Hutchings, E.V. Mendenhall, Dr. Burton Johnson and Joe Walsh.
Spur Moormeier of 3428 Hoyt Ave., Everett, won a free trip to the Hudson Motor Service School in Detroit because he was outstanding in parts and service sales in the state. He was service manager for Root Motors at 25th Street and Broadway.
John C. Larson, a journeyman meterman for PUD, was chosen winner of the William T. Elmgren Public Service Award by the Washington State PUD Association. An 11-year employee of PUD, Larson was honored for his many years of community involvement, employment leadership and family and church-oriented activities.
The City Council took the first step toward closing the 1300 block of Wetmore Avenue so that General Hospital could expand across the street. Several residents opposed the vacation because it would worsen parking problems. Council president Carl Gipson and council member Judy Baker, who were on the hospital board, abstained.
