50 years ago (1963)
To the disappointment of some there was no snow for Christmas in Everett. There was still beauty to behold such as the decorations in the area of 51st and 52nd streets near Dogwood Drive.
Cascade High School claimed it was the first high school ever to have its pennant flown over the South Pole. Student Rosemary Sylwester worked it all out after Mel Schell, adviser to the school newspaper “Stehekin” mentioned that a good reporter not only wrote stories assigned but also found new stories.
25 years ago (1988)
One business in the Christmas spirit was Pet Pouri on Evergreen Way in south Everett. Janet Bernauer and Shannon Garoutte were owners of what was far more than a pet shop.
Another business in the Christmas spirit was the Calico Basket on Main Street in Edmonds. Owner Vickie McKenney invited all to come in and see the area’s first quilt shop. She offered a warm friendly atmosphere and fabrics that customers would love.
