A new press, operated by Clark Hendrickson, has been installed at 2732 36th St. to compress old automobiles, scrap iron and tin for sale to scrap dealers. The firm would be known as Sound Metals.
The administrative staff at Stevens Memorial Hospital was moving this week into a new building. Hospital administrator Robert Myers pushed a bed with the help of surgery supervisor Beverly Shinn and secretary Bunny Lentz. Myers said he expected to start serving the public from the new quarters sometime today.
25 years ago (1988)
Bill Bates scored 14 points and Lynn Kennedy added 13 yesterday when the Cascade High School boys basketball team defeated Wilson of Tacoma 57-54 for its first victory in the Northwest Prep Tournament at the Seattle Center Arena. Cascade faced South Kitsap next.
The Cascade girls basketball team slaughtered Bellingham. Alissia Lumpkin scored a game-high 20 points and had 10 rebounds as the Bruins dominated the non-conference game. Other high scorers were Lisa Witter, Laura Byers and Kris Little.
