50 years ago (1963)
Grace Wiggs was elected president of the Everett Rock and Gem Club. Elected to other posts were Leon Bellarts, Melissa McNall, Paul Wile, Dr. George Moll and Bill DeFeyter. The board of directors included Louis Maxwell, Salmer Olsen, Phil Meyer, Adeline Asper and H.M. Dyer.
Dick Goldsworthy, former manager of the Everett Theater, picked up another award for his efforts in improving film fare for children, Goldsworthy received a $500 award as “Showman of the Year” for the Southern California Division of Fox West Coast Theaters. He won the award over 100 other theater managers in Southern California.
25 years ago (1988)
More than $5,300 was raised for the American Heart Association at a “Heart of the Holidays” fund raising jewelry sale at the Hartley Mansion. Freddy Bear donated 230 huggable versions for patients at Providence Hospital, General Hospital and Stevens Hospital.
Wade Bradford, Mariner High School student, was a runner-up in a national essay contest sponsored by Egghead Discount Software. He won $250 worth of software for himself and $1,000 worth of software for his school.
