50 years ago (1963)
Two years ago with a top Christmas display that attracted people to the Mermont district, Maryland Avenue residents were planning for an even bigger crowd with a more outstanding display. Working on it were Kenneth Callahan, Cecil Cole and C.J. Engelstad.
Part of the musical group to be featured in a community Christmas program were Olympic View Junior High School students Ethel Woods, David Young, Glen Hallam, Suzanne Stagsdill, Steve Elke and Valerie Brown. The students would be directed by teachers Jascha Galperin, orchestra; Richard Uthmann, band; and Lois Dexter, chorus.
25 years ago (1988)
Sean Husmoe was reported as scoring a perfect 800 points in math on the regular SAT. According to Everett School District Spokeswoman Carolyn Meagher, approximate 1 million senior took the SAT nationally and less than 1 percent earned scores of 750 or higher.
Denise Williams and Mike German tallied totals by hand for unidentified customers when power went out at the Priest Point Grocery. They also used flashlights to help customers find goods in the darkened store. A major storm system had hurled across the county, dousing lights in hundreds of homes and businesses.
