50 years ago (1963)
Congressman Jack Westland of Everett recently visited with Snohomish County cadets whom he appointed to the U.S. Military Academy. They were John Chaffer and James McCutchan, of Everett; Wayne Poage, of Edmonds; and Robert Stromberg, of Mountlake Terrace.
Arriving in Everett over the weekend, William Carpenter, who arrived from Anchorage, lost no time renewing old acquaintances around the city. He, his wife Karen and their two children were moving here so he could take over management of Costello’s Men’s Wear. Carpenter was working closely with Tom Costello and Beulah Neumeister to learn the business.
25 years ago (1988)
Weight restrictions for the eastbound lanes of U.S. 2 out of Everett were expected to be lifted sometime the middle of next week. Temporary repairs were being made to the Snohomish River bridge after rotting support pilings were discovered.
The Kings Table had a breakfast buffet for only $3.69 with a coupon in The Herald. It included fresh fruit and juices, carved baked ham, assorted baked muffins and fresh pastry, plus more than 50 buffet items. There was a Kings Table on Broadway in Everett and on 196th in Lynnwood.
