50 years ago (1963)
For several years, industry along the waterfront was dominated by Western Gear Corp. Then things began to change. The most unique new business was that of Wolfkill Feed and Seed, headquartered in Monroe, which was raising about 62,000 fryer chickens in one of the buildings.
Two appointments in Wicklund Realty, 2923 Wetmore Ave., were announced by Roy Wicklund. Pete Rider was named to residential sales and Roy Romaneski to the business opportunities department.Both were licensed real estate agents and well-known in the Everett area.
25 years ago (1988)
Wide skirts, greasy hair and leather jackets were in vogue as Arlington Christian School held a “50s Night” at the Skate Inn roller rink in Marysville.Dennis Gaynor’s tough guy look earned best costume honors and a shriek of laughter from judge Barbara Turpin.
The female athlete of the week was Mariner High volleyball player Jenny Jones. Jenny, who averaged 20 kills per match, had 21 kills and 11 blocks and 15 kills and 12 blocks in two recent Mariner victories. Coach Michelle Smith said Jenny was a fine athlete and a team player.
