The boy athlete of the week was junior running back/linebacker Richie Chambers of Lake Stevens High. Coach Fred Emerson said that Chambers had been improving all season and had had a really good past three weeks. One accomplishment was having four fumble recoveries this season.
Shannon Forsberg, senior freestyle swimmer for Meadowdale High, was the girl athlete of the week. Unbeaten in dual meets over two seasons, she had qualified for the state meet in six events. She also had state qualifying times in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200 freestyle.
