50 years ago (1963)
Yesterday was the first day for students at the new Lynnwood Elementary School. Principal Walt Nelson, the teachers and students had started the school year in double-shifts at Spruce Elementary. Horses grazed near the front entrance and cows roamed the woods in back of the school.
Gary Paul Norton, son of Mr. Bill D. Norton, 2301 McDougall Ave., had been enlisted into the U.S. Army. After enlistment ceremonies, he departed from Sea-Tac airport along with other Puget Sound enlistees for eight weeks of basic training at Fort Ord, Calif.
25 years ago (1988)
Power lines, drop lines, building lines, pipe lines and lifelines all seemed to interconnect, some with their own shadows, on the east side of the Scott Paper plant. Gary Johnson and Jerry Anderson of Cascade Industries Northwest crossed over the lines this week as they painted the side of the building.
It was the grand opening of Fulton’s Landing, 10220 Third Ave. SE. The apartment community was priced to match your budget. One bedroom floor plans started at $395.
