50 years ago (1963)
The appointment of Russell Bassett, 3506 Rockefeller Ave., to the sales staff of Wyeth Laboratories, Philadelphia pharmaceutical concern, was announced. Bassett, who was formerly with Washington Natural Gas, had attended the University of Washington. His headquarters would be in Everett.
Senior girls at Everett High School were getting ready to welcome sophomore girls with entertainment at a Hula Holiday Tea. Seniors planning the event were Carolee Larsen, Josie Chism, Leslie Lindquist, Janet Cunningham, Nancy Schwartz, Janice Jones and Diane Burt.
25 years ago (1988)
Playing at Cathcart was the birds, but it was no movie. On any given day at the at the sanitary landfill chattering seagulls could be found circling the area looking for lunch. Workers were fighting back. Gary Wiseman shot a cracker gun to scatter the flock while Bruce Snyder tied off lines to disorient the gulls.
Munson Manufacturing, an Edmonds producer of high performance commercial motorboats, received a $1.5 million contract to build two surveying boats for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The contract was the largest job so far for the eight-year-old firm, according to firm president Bill Munson.
