50 years ago (1963)
Dads would get royal treatment at Cascade High tomorrow night at Dad’s Night being entertained with band music, the Bruinette drill team, gymnastics, refreshments and more. Working on the committee making this possible were Jane Clausen, Robbie Hawthorne, Paul Panyon, Cal Sennet, Mary Wescott and Ron Gilbertson.
Wind-whipped flames destroyed two dry kilns and nearly 300,000 board feet of lumber at the Murphy Mill south of Arlington this morning. Harold Murphy, said a downed electrical wire may have caused the fire. Fire Chief Robert Meier estimated the loss at $75,000.
25 years ago (1988)
Dr. Richard Knudsen of Everett was one of 25 physicians selected nationally to attend a recent fellowship program in the treatment of epilepsy at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C.
The farm of Ed Stocker and his family near Highway 9 south of Snohomish was busy again this year. They grew and sold about 300 tons of pumpkins each year. The stars of the Stocker pumpkin patch averaged more than 100 pounds and a few had tipped the scales at 300 pounds.
