50 years ago (1963)
Among the 11 new instructors at Everett Junior college were longtime residents Joel Carlson and Theodore White, both in mathematics. Carlson had taught at Evergreen Junior High and special evening courses at EJC. White began in Everett and most recently taught at Cascade High.
The last open playday of the Rawhide Riders would be this Sunday at the old Harford School grounds on Ridel Road, Lake Stevens. Gladys Sullivan was the trainer in horsemanship. Roy Butler had more information.
25 years ago (1988)
The heart of Everett Community College was intact again as the library and student center at the heart of the campus was nearing completion. It was built of concrete and glass, but its foundation was blood, sweat and tears. It would be dedicated to Everett firefighter Gary Parks who lost his life on Feb. 16, 1987 in a fire that destroyed the former student center.
The Herald ran an editorial supporting the decision of Northwest Airlines to ban smoking on all domestic flights. The winner was the traveling public, because it got to make the choice how to fly.
