50 years ago (1963)
Nineteen Boy Scouts were leaving Rosehill School on Saturday for a 63-mile trek on the Cascade Crest Trail. They were John Anderson, Danny Douglas, Gary Anderson, Mike Gleason, Daryl Johnson, Jerry Kimball, Bob Livingston, Greg Mowat, Ron Nelson, John Phipps, Ray Sellers, Roland Stemmer, Benny Whitson, Buster Whitson, Danny Whitson, Kenny Whitson, Bill Winchell, Greg Mackie and Rick Gay.
Stevens Memorial Hospital was beginning to take shape as contractors completed the steel skeleton of the three-story building that would provide more than 100 hospital beds for south county. Opening date was scheduled for Dec. 27.
25 years ago (1988)
Jeffrey R. Mitchell had been named chief financial officer of Everett Mutual Savings Bank. He had been a bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Now he was responsible for such things as investment interests, assets and liabilities and supervision of accounting.
Raymond Reid, new school superintendent in Stanwood and formerly with the state Superintendent of Public Instruction in Olympia, was happy to be in his new position. He said he had missed rubbing shoulders with students and staff. He, his wife and two sons would soon be moving to Stanwood.
