50 years ago (1963)
The Betty Spooner Dance School was to perform “Gogo’s Love,” under the direction of Betty Spooner and Martha Stephenson, at the high school auditorium. Spooner’s co-stars were Suzanne Wicken and Don Corliss.
Everett YMCA ended its gym year with a program Saturday night honoring, among others, its outstanding boy and girl. Jay Gilleland received the Carpenter and Carpenter trophy and Jill Shattock retired the Everett Business and Professional Woman’s Club award. Ev Conley of the Y made the presentations.
25 years ago (1988)
Readers had a chance to get rid of a real pain in the neck. The Herald’s NW Life section was holding and Ugly Tie contest in honor of Father’s Day. Those entering had to pose with the offending neckties and explain their history. Entries would be judged by panel of local fashion experts.
Sixth grader Aimee Verrall was the “victim” in a mock earthquake disaster drill helped at Lynnwood Intermediate School. The drill, organized by the south Snohomish County Emergency Services Coordinating Agency and teacher Buck Jorgensen, tested plans for responding to disasters. More than 500 people participated.
