50 years ago (1963)
Walt Thompson, of Everett, was leaving the Post Office Department after 38 years of service. He wound up his career as of today. Thompson spent almost all of his years in Everett, where he eventually rose to assistant postmaster.
Leah Reece, of Port Gardner Women’s Golf Club, carded an 81 at Muny yesterday to set the first-round pace in the annual City Women’s Amateur Golf Tournament, which was to conclude late today at the Everett Golf and Country Club.
25 years ago (1988)
When Ray Requa retired from Scott Paper seven years ago, he and other retirees hit upon the idea for what became a monthly lunch get-together at the Everett Elks. Between 50 and 75 folks now showed up each time. This Thursday they would recognize retiree Peter Anderson on his 95th birthday and father/son combination Ray Van Pattens Senior and Junior.
Ivy Guss, 14, of Marysville, cooled off yesterday afternoon with screams of delight as she went swinging into the Pilchuck River at Pilchuck Recreation Area in Snohomish. Hot weather all over the county was sending people to the water.
