50 years ago (1963)
William Brooks, new manager of the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce, and John M. McEwen, pulp and paper manager at Weyerhaeuser and new president of the chamber, met to prepare for their noon meeting with the board of directors.
Construction was expected to start this month on the 24-alley Linda Lanes at the Eastmont Shopping Center. The air-conditioned building would contain the latest AMF bowling equipment. Manager Martin Selig said Nov. 1 was the completion date.
25 years ago (1988)
Back by popular demand, and sponsored by Nendel’s of Everett, was the “Captain Dynamite.” Everett Giants fans could see him blow himself up with four sticks of high-grade dynamite at the game against the Boise Hawks.
The Mill Creek Country Club was hosting a 36-hole qualifying tournament for the U.S. Amateur Championship. Golfers expected to participate (and their courses) included Don Christensen and Arnold Hall (Everett Golf &Country Club), Michael Seek (Walter Hall), Adam Borseth and Mark Coghill (Cedarcrest), Leroy Niznik (Kayak Point), Bruce Christy (Snohomish) and Jim Strickland (Mill Creek),
