50 years ago (1963)
Joe Husby clarified some facts about the “Big Stump” on Highway 99. He said that no loggers ever took a cut into the big cedar. Instead it was the victim of a big fire in July 1893. It was located on the grounds of the Old District 22 schoolhouse and in the right-of-way for a new road to Marysville. In 1922 it was sawed off and moved to the south tip of the schoolyard. Later it was moved when the highway was straightened.
Sultan teachers were joining others from small districts for an overnight meeting at Camp Silverton. New to the district were Louise Redfield, Bernard Sjogren and Mary Maliskeski.
25 years ago (1988)
Lee A. Pintar had been promoted to district manager of First Interstate Bank of Washington’s Vancouver area. Pintar was formerly vice president and manager of the First Interstate’s Northwest Area Commercial Banking division in Everett.
Gene Henderson had been appointed general manager at KRKO Radio in Everett. Henderson had been in the broadcast field for 35 years. He was previously news anchor, producer and talk-show host with KIRO and station manager with KEZX in Seattle.
