50 years ago (1963)
Construction of a new state liquor store building began at the northeast corner of Hewitt and Grand avenues. Joe Hart was the builder and Dewey Showlund was in charge. Jeff Case designed the building. When completed, the existing liquor store at 1504 Hewitt Avenue would be closed.
Linda Morse, Everett Junior College student and member of the EJC summer band, had her piccolo ready on her lap as she played her flute during rehearsal for tonight’s concert. Like most flute players in the band, she also played the piccolo.
25 years ago (1988)
Nan Eskenzal Day was named manager for the newly expanded and renovated Everett Mall. Day had been part of the marketing team for the mall for six years. Maria Lamarca Anderson was named the mall’s marketing director. She had been the assistant marketing director.
Dr. Brian Benzel has been immersed in homework since taking over as superintendent of the Edmonds School District on July 1 following the retirement of Dr. Hal Reasby. Benzel came to the district from the Mead School District near Spokane, where he was superintendent for four years.
