50 years ago (1964)
Herb Pells, 1701 Rucker Ave., was the winner of the “Doggy in the Window” contest at Chester Beard Shoe Store. Chester L. Bear and Chester (Bud) Beard Jr. said the large stuffed Hush Puppy doggy, a replica of the Hush Puppy trade mark, attracted 250 entries. Top retailers throughout the county participated in the contest.
Vincent Smith, of Snohomish, held a 22-pound steelhead he took from the Snohomish River via plunking with eggs and bobber. The fresh-run buck measured 37½ inches in length. It was Smith’s largest steelhead, nosing out an 18-pounder he beached last week.
25 years ago (1989)
State Rep. Karla Wilson of Lake Stevens and John Wynne of Monroe were among a group of people who walked along a river trail near a train bridge over the Skykomish, as part of looking into creating a rail trail. Also, a trail might sometime go from Snohomish to Edgecomb.
The Everett Community College basketball team defeated Cariboo College 98-48. ECC stars in the blowout were Bob Hofstetter, Tolt High School; Jeff Chandler, Everett High; Doug Gamble, Cascade; Mark Nelson, Woodway, and Jeremy Dorsey, Snohomish
