50 years ago (1963)
Mayor Irvin Faussett of Monroe was one of seven city officials who tried their hand at milking in a contest designed to call attention to Dairy Month. The contest, directed by Ray Sidley, was staged at the B&M parking lot, 26th St. and McDougall Ave.
Bert Ibsen, of 6923 Wetmore Ave., secretary at the sheet metal workers union, was named to the Everett Civil Service Board to succeed George Cyr, who resigned. Ibsen’s appointment was made by Mayor George Gebert and confirmed by the other commissioners.
25 years ago (1988)
Dreams came true for 7-year-old Brandon McNett of Marysville. Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Seattle, a huge, new Kenworth truck paid the boy a visit. Brandon wanted to be a truck driver one day, but had a serious heart disease.
They didn’t make railroad ties like they used to. Using sophisticated machinery, the Burlington Northern Railroad was installing concrete ties between Gold Bar and Wenatchee as part of a six-year effort to gradually replace the old-style wooden ties on many of the rail line’s high-use tracks.
