50 years ago (1963)
Jack Charters, of Mukilteo, was an old hand at stage make-up, having begun a career in show business in 1907 in California. He recalled playing here when the Everett Theatre was an opera house and in the old Rose Theatre across the alley where the swimming pool was now.
A Granite Falls High School junior was one of 36 students to attend the National Science Foundation Summer Institute at Holy Names College, in Oakland, Calif., during July and August. Suzanne Engbretsen was chosen from 215 applicants.
25 years ago (1988)
It was preview time at Grandview Village. Marysville’s unique new retirement community at 5800 64th St. NE was opening in July but today people could enjoy a personal preview tour. They could learn about the advantages of living in secure and beautiful surroundings in the quiet countryside, yet so close to downtown and the new mall.
Hundreds of mountain-bicycle enthusiasts had come to Sultan this weekend to test their skills in one of the fastest-growing hobbies in the nation: the second-annual Dirty Mudder Days mountain-bike celebration. Cheryl Baker was a novice but also a high scorer in one race.
