50 years ago (1963)
Delia M. Stephenson, Everett author and former teacher, told the story of “Wool Gathering” to Beverly Owens and Kenneth Kruick, fourth graders at Whittier School. The story was based on an incident which took place in the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
August P. Burger, sophomore counselor at Everett High School, was selected as one of 30 secondary school counselors in the western United States to attend the Advance Guidance and Counseling Training Institute sponsored by the U.S. Office of Education under terms of the National Defense Education Act. The conference would be held at the Portland Continuation Center of the Oregon State System of Higher Education.
25 years ago (1988)
General Hospital Medical Center was planning a new tower and parking garage adjacent to the hospital complex on Colby Avenue. Neighbor Bill Odell said opposition from Everett homeowners was serious and determined. He added that a recent canvass of the neighborhood indicated that 88 percent of its residents opposed the plan.
Snohomish County PUD minibonds were likely to reappear this spring. A PUD minibond sale netted $1.9 million last fall, but utility officials thought they could do better.
