50 years ago (1963)
Top scholastic honors for the Lake Stevens High School Class of 1963 were earned by Vance McFarland, valedictorian, and Terry Godfrey, salutatorian. Vance, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter McFarland, had a grade point average of 3.946, while Terry, Son of Mr. and Mrs. Minor Godfrey, had a grade point average of 3.895.
Tonight at 7:30 the Lynn Theater in Lynnwood opened. Showing were Critics Choice and Love is a Ball. The deluxe family theater had 825 contoured seats, wide screen, sound-proof family rooms and ample parking. It was located on the west side of Highway 99 a little south of 196th Street.
25 years ago (1988)
The Brothers Four were coming to Everett for a tribute to firefighter Gary Parks. The concert would take place at the Everett Civic Auditorium with a reception following at the Hartley Mansion. General admission for both was $25. Gov. Booth Gardner would be in attendance.
Broadloom Northwest at 2601 Colby Avenue was having a super sale on Dupont certified Stainmaster carpets. Broadloom was a one-stop decorating center carrying carpets, blinds, vinyls, wallpaper, ceramic tile, hardwoods and paints. Shoppers could “buy where the builders buy.”
