50 years ago (1963)
Marysville runner Bill Griffin ruined any hopes of a Burlington win at Marysville yesterday. He won the 100-yard dash, the 440-yard run, the pole vault, and anchored the winning 880 relay team to pick up 16¼ points as the Tommies downed the Tigers 68-58. Griffin set a recordin the 440 with a time of 51.6, the old standard being 53.8.
Patty Howells would ride and jump her horse, Mr. Seb, in the Annual Skyline-Vanguard Orthopedic Open Horse Show this month at Skyline Arena East Everett. Mr. Seb won the annual Washington state hunter and jumper high-score award for Washington-bred thoroughbreds in 1962.
25 years ago (1988)
Century 21 congratulated its “centurions.” Mike Steenberg was honored as top producer and for being in the top 1 percent nationwide. Norm Tubbs was cited as a top broker/owner and his was among the top 1 percent of Century 21 offices nationwide.
The Pacific Coast and Washington Open power-lifting championships were taking place at the Pacific West Sport &Racquet Club in Lynnwood. Women and men were competing.
