50 years ago (1963)
Jerry Newport, young Everett artist, was featured in a one-man show at First Federal Gallery. Among those Newport studied with were Bernard Webber, Everett Junior College and Art Instruction, Minneapolis. He was employed at Thornhill Publishing Co.
Under the direction of Marguerite Snavely, Everett High School students were readying another ambitious musical presentation. It was Meredith Willson’s Broadway hit, “Music Man.” Three of the major roles would be filled by Sue Richards as Marion Paroo, Ron Johnson as Prof. Harold Hill and Larry Fleck as Marcellus.
25 years ago (1988)
Boyden Realty at 1429 Broadway was having an open house at Allen Crest in north Marysville. Fifteen new homes with three bedrooms and one and three-fourths baths were featured. They were priced from $64,950, thousands below appraisal, and easy FHA financing was available
The roar of racing engines thundered over the Monroe Fairgrounds, but it was not the usual din of stock cars. The occasion was the county’s first Equipment Road-e-o, a chance for county public works employees to show off their driving skills in competition. The all-day event brought together about 15 drivers of heavy equipment.
