50 years ago (1964)
Elmer Lueken, chip storage man at the Weyerhaeuser sulphite pulp mill, retired last week after 22 years with the company. In recognition of his service, Charles Linden, wood department superintendent, presented him with a new billfold, which held a $20 bill. Lueken also received a cash gift from fellow employees.
Construction and operation of a water system in the Three Lakes area, northeast of Snohomish, was approved yesterday by Snohomish County commissioners. Work was expected to begin six months after final plans for the system were approved by the county engineer’s office.
25 years ago (1989)
Kevin A. Fraser, a 1987 graduate of Lake Stevens High School and a Navy petty officer third class, recently completed Data Systems Technician School and was promoted to his present rank.
April Blackford, 11, pushed Lorry Bossert, also 11, along 45th Ave. W. in Lynnwood yesterday afternoon. For an encore the weather had turned slick ‘n’ sassy. Many county roads were worse today due to the snow and freezing weather and the black ice that caused more accidents last night throughout the area.
