50 years ago (1963)
Under the guidance of manager Harry Nielsen, GallenKamp’s Shoe Store at 2804 Colby Ave., had been completely revamped. Changes were made for merchandising and the benefit of the customers. A grand opening was to be held tomorrow.
25 years ago (1988)
A city project to improve traffic signals downtown was set to begin. Public Works spokesman Lou Moschilli said new equipment to regulate traffic flow would be installed. The 84-block area affected extended from 19th Street to Pacific Avenue, Rucker Avenue to Broadway.
Trudy Dana of Edmonds published her first book. “Safe and Sound — A Parent’s Guide to the Care of Children Home Alone” was the result of hundreds of interviews with public safety officials, teachers, parents, child-care experts and thousands of school-age children.
