50 years ago (1964)
Private Jon C. Holm, Granite Falls, was now home on leave for the holidays after completing basic training at Fort Ord, Calif. He would received training in auto mechanics at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. Holm was the son of Alyce M. Holm, Green Gables Inn.
The Lynnwood Police Department, in conjunction with the Maxwell House Coffee Co., would provide a free coffee service to local residents on New Year’s Eve. A truck equipped with black coffee and doughnuts would travel about the Lynnwood business area, stopping at parking lots to distribute its wares.
25 years ago (1989)
Senior center David Vik scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Everett to a 61-57 non-conference victory over host Woodinville. Jason Rooker hit a 3-point goal to ensure the victory.
The Cascade Bruins defeated Rogers of Puyallup 55-51 in the third round of the Northwest Holiday Tournament at the Seattle Center Arena. Lynn Kennedy led in scoring with 13 points and had nine assists. Zak Miller had 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots.
