50 years ago (1963)
Everett high schools’ representatives did well at the recent Distributive Education Convention in Tacoma. Among the winners were Jack Huson of Everett, and Ron Thielen, Mike Kepley, Kay Dennis and Tom Libby of Cascade.
James R. Otto Jr. and Dick Weiss, both of Everett High School, took top honors in the judging for the sixth annual Snohomish County Science Fair and became representatives of the county-wide fair to the National Science Fair in Albuquerque, N.M. Among the other winners were Sue Hutchinson, Robert Malstrom, Phil Storch, Bruce Nicholson, Paul Timmerman and Peggy Simmermacher.
25 years ago (1988)
The Everett School District passed a hurdle when the Mill Creek Community Association voted overwhelmingly to lift access restrictions to a proposed middle school (Heatherwood) site adjacent to the city. It was hoped that the new school could be completed to open this fall.
Business people in downtown Marysville sent a loud message to the Marysville City Council to keep 36 slots for parking. The city was suggesting eliminating the slots to provide room for a new left turn lane.
