50 years ago (1963)
Don Bettger recently received the Quartermaster rank, highest available in the Sea Scouts. He was the 16th to ever reach the rank in the 30 years of the organization in Everett. The first mate for Sea Scout Ship No. 1, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bettger.
Plans and specifications were now available for Paine Field’s 1,000-foot runway extension, according to Major R.R. Sinsel, staff civil engineer. Construction was primarily for the concrete extension and an 850-foot gravel- surfaced overrun.
25 years ago (1988)
When it rained, the problems poured into Powder Mill gulch in southwest Everett. The creek that ran down a steep, narrow gorge swelled with runoff from a 1,300-acre watershed that included the Everett Boeing plant and points as far south as Casino Road. The city was proposing options for curbing erosion at a meeting at City Hall.
Linda and Tom Pinkham were nearly ready to open Pinkham Pillow, their bed and breakfast at Dayton Street and Third Avenue S. in Edmonds. Tonight a charity function for Stevens Memorial Hospital inaugurated the building. It would be open to the public in about two weeks.
