50 years ago (1963)
Claude Wells of Marysville had decorated his garage door with an outdoor scene characteristic of the community. A migration of geese was depicted where otherwise would be a flat expanse of all-one color. West had brightened the area for years with his creations during the Christmas season.
Granville Grange, in cooperation with Granite Falls firemen and Lions Club and employees of Miller Shingle Co. Local 2198, presented $134.02 to the March of Dimes. The money was raised through contributions and events sponsored by the groups.
25 years ago (1988)
Everett’s Ladies Auxiliary in Old Guard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2100 had more than a casual interest in a VFW Auxiliary visitation to the Legislature on March 3. Ellen Allen, department (state) president of the auxiliary, and Mary Lindstrom, legislative chairwoman in charge of the visitation, were both members of the Everett unit.
Those in the news in the armed forces included Daniel P. Furiak of Everett, lance corporal in the Marine Corps who earned the parachutist badge after completing an airborne course at Fort Banning, Ga., and Anthony T. Price of Sultan, who earned the Army’s air assault badge.
