50 years ago (1964)
The first measurable snow in a couple of years hit Everett in two flurries yesterday. The first was heavy in the south end but just a ground cover in the north end. Then after dark it really came down and at 32 degrees, it stuck.
The Salvation Army was doing something different this year with the traditional Christmas Kettles by putting them in huts. Looking them over were Capt. Edward Crosby, Sheriff Don Jennings and Sam A. Hanson, Mountlake Terrace mayor.
25 years ago (1989)
City officials were trying to get the dirt on sinking soil in the 2800 block of Hoyt Avenue. Public works director Clair Olivers said buildings were settling and it wasn’t over yet. Assistant director Larry Crawford said a water main break was a symptom of the settlement, not the other way around. Four buildings were affected.
It might be cold out but there was always a warm chair at the Outcast Barbershop in Snohomish. Brothers Arnie and Dick Coon had been saving a seat for Snohomish backsides since 1962. There was no need to make reservations because the Outcast didn’t have a phone.
