50 years ago (1964)
A front-page photo labeled “Mukilteo’s Headache” showed a line of cars headed down to the ferry landing. Traffic came to a halt on weekends as motorists headed for Whidbey Island. The line backed up for blocks along the Speedway and Marshal John Nunnally never had to worry about what he was going to do from Friday through Sunday.
Marsha Baird scored a second and third to pace the Lake Stevens Water Ski Club in the Tri-City Water Ski Tournament at Richland yesterday. Other placers in the meet from the Lake Stevens team were Gene Skoglund, Steve Moody and Ken Anderson.
25 years ago (1989)
Everett would get a walkway, bicycle path, fishing pier and other public-access improvements at spots along about 6½ miles of its waterfront under a plan being studied jointly by the city and Port of Everett. The access plan identified 21 different recreation-oriented waterfront projects.
Adah Davis, 9, of Arlington worked her way above the “lava slime pool” in the “Double Dare Obstacle Course” at Jennings Park in Marysville. Based on the television show, the event attracted about 200 children. It was sponsored by the Marysville Parks and Recreation Department.
