50 years ago (1964)
Herald cameraman Jim Leo scored a photographic “hat trick” yesterday by winning three high awards in the Associated Press annual Northwest photo contest. He won more awards than any other individual photographer in all metropolitan and non-metropolitan newspapers in the Northwest.
Formal dedication ceremonies and open house would be held Nov. 1 for the new multipurpose unit at the Luther Child Center, formerly known as Parkland Lutheran Children’s Home, 4536 Federal Ave. The new structure housed a gymnasium, stage, arts and crafts department, manual training facilities and a classroom. Eric Nord was chairman of the fund drive to erect the building.
25 years ago (1989)
Auction items were needed for an Everett Community College foundation scheduled for March 24 next year that would feature vacation and recreation packages and equipment. The foundation was seeking items such as sleeping bags and tents. For more information people could call Don Barbarcovi.
A group of school principals from Indonesia recently toured the Sno-Isle Skills Center receiving instruction from students in everything from veterinary medicine to data processing. Randa Slater and Alicia Peterson showed how to make molds while Chris Bowman demonstrated how to make calibrations.
