OLYMPIA — A bipartisan group of Washington state senators has rolled out a state construction budget calling for $3.9 billion in capital spending over the next two years.
The proposal announced Wednesday morning is more than $100 million larger than the capital budget bill passed by the House last week. The two plans both call for spending tens of millions of dollars on new mental-health facilities and hundreds of millions of dollars on education-related projects, as well as a range of other infrastructure construction such as parks.
The House capital budget bill passed in a 96-2 vote Thursday. The Senate’s proposed amendment to the bill is scheduled for its first public hearing Wednesday.
