EDMONDS – Dr. Hsiaoyu Jiang, a local cardiologist who suffered severe injuries when the bicycle he was riding collided with a car April 9, died Thursday at Harborview Medical Center.
There will be a private family service and a public service for friends and patients of the 45-year-old heart specialist who worked and lived in Edmonds.
A memorial service for Dr. Hsiaoyu Jiang will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Edmonds Conference Center, 201 Fourth Ave. N. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association, Northwest Affiliate-Snohomish County, 4414 Woodland Park Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98133. Friends and fellow cyclists are planning an informal memorial ride starting at 9 a.m. May 7, at Logboom Park (Tracy Owen Station) in Kenmore. It is a casual ride to Marymoor Park and back. |
A native of Beijing, China, Jiang practiced with Stevens Cardiology Group, a member clinic of Swedish Heart Institute. He was on the medical staff of Stevens Hospital in Edmonds, where he was in charge of the critical-care committee.
Dr. John Todd, CEO of Stevens, asked the hospital community in a memo to remember the physician and his family in thoughts and prayers.
The collision occurred about 5 p.m. in the 11800 block of Holmes Point Drive in unincorporated King County, according to a sheriff’s report. According to friends, Jiang hit the side of a car. He was wearing a helmet. Colleagues said he was an accomplished cyclist with racing experience.
He graduated from Beijing Medical University in 1983 and did his internship and residency training at Beijing Medical University and Columbia University. He completed his cardiology fellowship at UCLA.
Dr. Jiang was board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and nuclear medicine. He had been with Stevens Cardiology since 1998.
Jiang is survived by his former wife, Rhoda Chang; their son Adam; father Wande; mother Lirong Guo; and brothers Patrick, Wei and Chong Yuan.
