A public hearing on proposed rules for a legal marijuana industry will be held in Everett next month.
The state Liquor Control Board on Friday added the session to its schedule of meetings to be conducted around the state over a three-day period beginning Aug. 6.
The board is crafting rules and regulations under which marijuana can be harvested, processed and sold through retail outlets to those 21 years and over starting next year.
Board members filed the rules July 3 and are planning to approve them Aug. 14. In September, the state will began accepting applications for separate licenses to grow, process and sell marijuana.
Last fall voters made Washington and Colorado the first states to legalize the sale of taxed marijuana to adults over 21 at state-licensed stores.
Washington will allow individuals to have up to an ounce of dried marijuana; 16 ounces of a pot-infused solid, such as brownies; or 72 ounces of a pot-infused liquid, such as tea.
Under the rules, the state will allow grow operations indoors and outdoors. While there are no limits proposed on the number of licenses issued for growing pot and making marijuana products, a cap will be set on the number of retailers statewide and in each county though the amount is not yet known.
In Everett, the hearing is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. at the Everett Holiday Inn, 3105 Pine St.
Additional hearings are planned in Seattle, Olympia, Ellensburg and Spokane.
